We have good news regarding our progress toward identifying a new site!
We’re honing our grant writing skills and contiuing to collaborate with our fiscal agent, BCL of Texas / Texas Community Builders, and responding to funding opportunities. Right now, we are working on an application to Austin Community Foundation, under their Forever Austin opportunity for housing stability.
In March, we met with Assistant City Manager Stephanie Hayden-Howard about how to best move forward with the City since Council approval of Resolution No. 20241121-076. She put us in touch with several City departments, Age-Friendly Austin, and the Commission on Aging. We’ve already had meetings with Economic Development staff, the City Demographer, and both seniors’ agencies. And we are meeting with Housing and Planning administrators on the 29th.
We’re pleased to share the map created by the City Demographer, Lila Valencia. It shows areas of the City along Project Connect lines where seniors are concentrated. We plan to use this map to help us identify a suitable site—if you know of a site in one of the circled areas you would like us to investigate, please let us know.
Important recent events include attendance at:
The City Budget Hearing at the Northwest Recreation Center, where we met City Manager Broadnax and Council Members Siegel and Duchen.
Housing Works Austin, Housing + Regional Affordability: Collective Action Beyond City Limits summit last week, where Carol had a chance to network with partners and prospective partnering organizations.
